Emmy Award-winning journalist Steve McCarron knew he wanted to pursue a career in television news the day two Seattle news anchors visited his fifth-grade class at Sunrise Elementary School. After hearing about their passion for meeting new people every day and sharing stories that affect their lives, he was hooked.
A native of Kent, Washington, Steve joined KOMO News in June 2014 after stops in Portland, Oregon; Fresno, California; and Yakima, Washington. He currently serves as the station's morning Live Desk anchor and helped launch ARC Seattle in January 2024. ARC Seattle is a one-hour morning show that airs from 7-8 a.m. each weekday on KUNS-TV, the local CW Network station. The show focuses on authentic, in-depth conversations about community issues and events, while also highlighting trending topics online and on social media.
Steve is a proud graduate of the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University. Go Cougs! As a student, he was honored to meet the late Peter Jennings during the 2004 Murrow Symposium.
After graduation, he spent five weeks as an intern in Spokane before getting the call to report at KAPP-TV in the Yakima Valley. Steve began his career on his birthday in 2004. He was named weekend co-anchor and helped launch the station's dual market weekend newscasts in January 2006.
In his spare time, Steve loves to travel, explore new hiking trails, row, watch movies, entertain friends, and try out new restaurants and beers/wines. During his time in central California, Steve hiked Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. He's also participated in several half-marathons.
Steve currently lives in Seattle.
