A massive spill from a tractor-trailer carrying thousands of pounds of squid caused a roadway to be closed for more than seven hours on Sunday.
Talk about a slippery situation. Thousands of pounds of squid spilled from a tractor-trailer onto a Rhode Island roadway Sunday, leaving behind a massive mess that forced officials to shut the road for more than seven hours.
The tractor-trailer tipped over at the intersection of Point Judith and Galilee Escape roads Sunday morning.
JOCELYN 2.Sub.01_frame_8722.jpegCrews were seen using skid steers to scrape the squid off the hot pavement.
"Squid has a distinctive odor to it, I'm a fisherman and I use squid for bait. I'm quite used to it, but it can be very foul-smelling especially if it lies on the road and stays there for a while. The fire department is doing a great job cleaning thing up as best they can,” Richard Stevens, a neighbor, said.
The tractor-trailer has since been towed away.
No one was injured in the incident.
The road reopened at about 5:30 p.m.
