As results continue to arrive for Washington's 2026 primary election, several closely-watched races across the state are taking shape.

As results continue to arrive for Washington's 2026 primary election, several closely-watched races across the state are taking shape.

Washington uses a top-two primary system, meaning the two candidates who receive the most votes in each race advance to the Nov. 3 general election, regardless of party preference.

3rd Congressional District

One of the state's most closely watched races is in Southwest Washington's 3rd Congressional District, where Democratic U.S. Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez is seeking a third term.

Here are the results as of Aug. 5 at 4:09 p.m.:

  • Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D, incumbent): 39% (54,132 votes)
  • John Braun (R): 39% (53,869 votes)
  • Brent Hennrich (D): 15% (21,290 votes)
  • John P. Roco (R): 2% (2,666 votes)
  • John Saulie-Rohman (I): 2% (2,121 votes)
  • Lawrence Kellogg (R): 2% (1,857 votes)

If the results hold, Gluesenkamp Perez and Braun would advance to the November general election under Washington's top-two primary system.

Because Washington counts ballots over several days, these results are unofficial and may change as additional ballots are processed.

4th Congressional District

The race to succeed retiring Republican U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse is one of Washington's most competitive open-seat contests.

Here are the results as of Aug. 5 at 4 p.m.:

  • John Duresky (D): 31% (26,631 votes)

  • Matt Boehnke (R): 11% (9,324 votes)

Washington counts ballots over several days, and election officials expect additional results to be released throughout the week as more mailed ballots are received and verified. Because ballots postmarked by Election Day can still be counted after Tuesday, close races may not be decided on election night.
