A Thurston County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputy has been fired after an internal investigation found the deputy failed to investigate a domestic violence incident and misrepresented key information, the agency said.

The sheriff’s office said it began investigating a missing person case July 14, 2026, after a woman “disappeared under suspicious circumstances.”

As detectives worked the case, they reviewed body camera footage from two days earlier, July 12, when the woman was involved in a domestic violence incident with her partner and the patrol deputy responded.

During the deputy’s investigation, the sheriff’s office said, the woman disclosed a physical assault and threats made by her partner earlier in the day. The deputy did not investigate further, did not write a case report, and noted in the call log: “spoke with [involved party] who stated no assault, no property damage, no threats.”

The sheriff’s office said that statement was determined to be an untruthful misrepresentation of fact.

The woman went missing under suspicious circumstances two days later. Deputies and detectives later located her unharmed on July 15.

After reviewing the body camera footage, the deputy was placed on administrative leave, the sheriff’s office said. The allegations were found to be substantiated through an internal investigation, and the deputy was terminated Sept. 15, 2026.

The sheriff’s office said it provided a notice of separation form to the Criminal Justice Training Commission and provided the Prosecutor’s Office with a Brady notice, which is a formal notification given to prosecutors by a law enforcement agency when an officer has a sustained record of misconduct involving dishonesty, untruthfulness, or other issues that could undermine their credibility as a witness in court

The organization representing the deputy has filed a grievance demanding the deputy be reinstated. The sheriff’s office said that if the termination decision is overturned, it will issue another press release.
