Man wounded in shooting after large fight near PLU campus, deputies say

A shooting near the Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) campus left one man wounded early Wednesday after a large fight broke out and several shots were fired, police said.

The shooting happened just before 1 a.m. outside Marco’s Cantina along Garfield Street South in Parkland.

Deputies arrived and found a man with a gunshot wound. His injuries were not life-threatening.

A crowd of 40 to 50 people continued to gather and fight in the street as police worked to gain control of the area, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Office.

With help from the Washington State Patrol and Lakewood police, deputies secured the area.

Police said no one at the scene was willing to provide investigators with information about the shooting.
