A traffic dispute in Seattle escalated into a physical fight Sunday afternoon, leaving two people injured and one facing an assault charge, according to police.
Officers responded at about 2:12 p.m. to a reported assault at Fourth Avenue North and Raye Street. Police said the victim reported being honked at in traffic, then pulling over and parking.
The victim told officers the suspect got out of their vehicle and approached as the victim sat inside his car. Police said a verbal argument followed, and with the driver-side window down, the suspect punched the victim several times in the face.
Police said the victim then armed himself with a knife for self-defense while still seated behind the wheel. The suspect was cut by the knife while throwing punches into the vehicle, police said.
Both people stayed at the scene while officers rendered aid until they were screened by the fire department. Police said the victim had minor facial injuries, while the suspect had a laceration to the left bicep.
The suspect refused transport to a hospital and was interviewed and released at the scene. Police said charges will be filed for assault.
