Seattle drivers are paying more at the pump this week, with average gasoline prices climbing again as national fuel costs also rise sharply, according to GasBuddy.

Average gasoline prices in Seattle have risen 3.3 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $5.69 per gallon today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 775 stations in Seattle. Prices in Seattle are 28.2 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 96.0 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

Across the country, the national average price of gasoline has risen 18.5 cents per gallon in the last week to $4.44 per gallon, GasBuddy reported. The national average is up 34.4 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands $1.30 per gallon higher than a year ago, based on data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations nationwide.

Diesel prices also increased. The national average price of diesel has increased 30.7 cents compared to a week ago and stands at $6.490 per gallon.

In Seattle, GasBuddy price reports showed the cheapest station was priced at $5.09 per gallon yesterday, while the most expensive was $6.49 per gallon, a difference of $1.40 per gallon. Statewide, the lowest price yesterday was $4.55 per gallon and the highest was $6.79 per gallon, a difference of $2.24 per gallon.

Nearby areas reported mixed movement:

- Tacoma: $5.48 per gallon, up 2.4 cents per gallon from last week’s $5.46 per gallon.

- Washington: $5.51 per gallon, up 1.2 cents per gallon from last week’s $5.50 per gallon.

- Yakima: $5.30 per gallon, down 4.6 cents per gallon from last week’s $5.34 per gallon.

GasBuddy also provided historical price comparisons for Sept. 21 over the past five years:

- Sept. 21, 2025: $4.73 per gallon (U.S. average: $3.14 per gallon)

- Sept. 21, 2024: $4.34 per gallon (U.S. average: $3.19 per gallon)

- Sept. 21, 2023: $5.16 per gallon (U.S. average: $3.83 per gallon)

- Sept. 21, 2022: $4.84 per gallon (U.S. average: $3.67 per gallon)

- Sept. 21, 2021: $4.00 per gallon (U.S. average: $3.19 per gallon)

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said, “Average gasoline prices rose in virtually every state over the last week, with 45 states seeing increases of more than 3 cents per gallon, led by the Great Lakes region where refinery issues sent Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Wisconsin all up more than 30 cents per gallon.” He added, “Diesel rose in every state, with five states seeing increases exceeding 50 cents per gallon, as continued strikes on Russian oil refineries tighten global diesel supply- a pressure further amplified in the Great Lakes by regional refinery issues. Any broader directional change will depend heavily on overseas developments, and with new Houthi attacks and fresh U.S.-Iran escalations, the outlook remains deeply uncertain.”
