A high-speed pursuit involving a stolen BMW SUV ended with three teenagers in custody and two firearms recovered after deputies spotted the vehicle racing and weaving through traffic in Pierce County.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office said that on Aug. 29 at about 7:30 a.m., a deputy observed a white BMW SUV driving southbound on Pacific Avenue South at high speed while weaving in and out of traffic. The BMW appeared to be traveling alongside or racing another dark-colored vehicle, also heading southbound.

Around the same time, dispatch advised deputies that a white BMW reported traveling southbound on Pacific Avenue South may be connected to several car prowls involving firearms and possible juveniles.

Deputies were also told a white BMW SUV had recently been stolen at gunpoint in Tacoma and that its occupants were reportedly involved in a crime spree throughout the night.

Based on the information available, the deputy initiated a pursuit. The sheriff’s department said the BMW continued southbound on Pacific Avenue South at speeds exceeding 100 mph, creating a significant danger to other motorists and the public.

During the pursuit, the BMW swerved into a ditch before quickly recovering and ultimately lost two tires. The disabled BMW came to a stop and three teenagers ran from the SUV, but deputies quickly located and took all three into custody.

The sheriff’s department said the BMW was left running and abandoned in the roadway. Two guns were visible in plain view, one on the driver’s side and another on the passenger’s side.

The driver was identified as a 14-year-old boy, with passengers who were 14 and 16 years old. All three were booked into Remann Hall.
