A man was shot and killed Tuesday evening near the Kent Des Moines Park and Ride in what police believe was a targeted shooting.

A man was shot and killed Tuesday evening at the Kent Des Moines Park and Ride in what police believe was a targeted shooting, according to a sergeant on scene.

Officers responded shortly after 6 p.m. to reports of gunfire and a man on the ground at the park and ride at 23405 Military Road South, according to the Kent Police Department.

Officers found the man with gunshot wounds and began lifesaving measures before Puget Sound Fire and King County medics arrived. The man died at the scene, according to police.

Police said the victim had not been positively identified but appeared to be between 18 and 25.

Police would not describe the suspect or a vehicle.

Detectives were interviewing witnesses and examining evidence at the scene. Police said initial information indicated the shooting was not random.

In a statement to KOMO News, King County Metro said its "unwavering goal is for everyone to feel secure and welcome throughout their entire journey," confirming the agency has 260 full-time transit security officers and 90 budgeted King County Sheriff's Office Metro Transit Police.

Officials are looking into whether any of its buses have cameras that captured what happened.

A second shooting was reported shortly after 8 p.m. near Kent Des Moines Road and Pacific Highway South, a few blocks from the first shooting. Officers found shell casings near a restaurant southwest of the intersection, but there was no indication anyone had been struck.

Police said there was not enough information Tuesday night to determine whether the two shootings were connected. Detectives are investigating both incidents, and neighboring law enforcement agencies have been notified.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Kent Police Department tip line at 253-856-5808.
