The Kent Police Traffic Unit is looking for witnesses to a crash into a fence that killed a man Friday morning.

The Kent Police Department traffic unit is looking for witnesses to a crash into a fence that killed a man Friday morning.

At 8:48 a.m., Kent police officers, Puget Sound Fire, and medics were dispatched to Military Road South, just south of Kent Des Moines Road, for a report of a car crash into a fence.

Firefighters freed the driver from the car and saw that a piece of the fence had entered the vehicle, hitting and killing the driver, a 37-year-old Kent man.

A passenger in the car was unhurt.

He told police that as the car traveled downhill toward Kent Des Moines Road, the driver said the brakes were not working. The driver then steered away to avoid hitting cars stopped at the bottom of the hill, and crashed into the fence instead.

Traffic investigators responded to determine what led up to the crash.

The Kent Police Department said that at this time, preliminary evidence did not point to drugs or alcohol being a factor in the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the incident and has not been interviewed by police is asked to leave a tip at 253-856-5808 or email KPDTipLine@kentwa.gov.
