The man charged in connection with a deadly 2020 mass shooting in downtown Seattle has been released from prison after a little over three years, according to a notification from Washington VINE.
In a communication issued on Aug. 31, Washington VINE said it received information that William Tolliver had been released from custody.
The release reason was listed as “Sentence served.”
Tolliver was sentenced June 16, 2023, to four years in prison after pleading guilty earlier that month to amended charges of second-degree manslaughter, third-degree assault and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm in a King County courtroom.
The case stemmed from the Jan. 22, 2020, shooting at Third Avenue and Pine Street. A 50-year-old woman was killed, and seven others were injured, including a 9-year-old boy who was walking with his family after a visit to the Pacific Science Center.
The shooting was described in court as the result of a gang feud, with Tolliver opening fire in a crowded area to target a rival gang member.
Tolliver was originally charged with first-degree murder, six counts of first-degree assault, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
He was released in March 2023 to electronic home monitoring at his grandmother’s home while he awaited trial.
Under the terms of his release, Tolliver was not allowed to have any guns or be in contact with any witnesses or co-defendants in the case. He was taken back into custody a couple of months later after allegedly threatening someone with a gun.
The other accused shooter, Marquise Tolbert, was also initially charged with murder and assault in the case and was found not guilty. However, he pleaded guilty to an unlawful possession of a firearm charge.
At the time of the 2020 shooting, both men already had long criminal histories, with 65 previous arrests and four felony convictions between them.
