Crews used heavy tractor loaders at the dump to spread the smoldering garbage

No one was hurt in a large fire that broke out at the South Transfer Station in Seattle.

The fire started at around 12:30 a.m. Friday in some piles of trash at the dump on South Kenyon Street, just east of State Route 509.

It took crews several hours to knock down the majority of the fire and put out hot spots.

The Seattle Fire Department (SFD) said crews used heavy tractor loaders at the dump to spread the smoldering garbage, then put out the fire.

SFD's mobile ventilation unit was at the scene to help clear smoke from the facility.

No injuries were reported.
