Deputies were called around 11 a.m. Wednesday to the 7700 block of 176th Street East after receiving a report of human remains, according to the sheriff’s department.
Deputies confirmed the remains were human.
Detectives and forensic personnel responded to begin a death investigation, and a significant law enforcement presence remained in the area through the afternoon while investigators processed the scene and collected evidence.
Authorities did not say who made the report or what prompted the report, etc.
Authorities said the remains were in an advanced state of decomposition and could not immediately be identified.
The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office will work to determine the person’s identity and the cause and manner of death.
The investigation remains ongoing.
