Seattle police arrested a 44-year-old man Monday in connection with the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old woman in Belltown earlier this month.

Seattle police arrested a 44-year-old man Monday in connection with the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old woman in Belltown earlier this month.

The shooting happened shortly before 2 a.m. Sept. 6 near Third Avenue and Blanchard Street, according to the Seattle Police Department.

Officers found the woman inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds to her head and torso.

Police and Seattle Fire Department medics provided aid before she was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition, where she later died.

Police said the woman was sitting in a parked vehicle when the suspect fired several shots into it, striking her. The suspect left the scene shortly after the shooting.

Homicide detectives, with assistance from the department’s SWAT and Gun Violence Reduction Unit, located and arrested the man on Monday, police said.

He was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of murder.
