Lanterns, live performances, and food vendors are bringing Seattle's Chinatown-International District to life during the return of its annual Night Market Saturday.
The 19th annual Chinatown-International District Night Market is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the historic heart of the neighborhood.
The event, produced by the CIDBIA and presented by Amazon for the third year in a row, features more than 100 local vendors, food trucks, and a lineup of cultural performances including lion dances, taiko drumming, and martial arts demonstrations.
“This year’s Night Market will light up the neighborhood with lanterns, local vendors, cultural performances and a strong sense of community,” said Tuyen Than, Executive Director of CIDBIA. Than added, “We’re excited to partner with Amazon for a third year of festivities in the CID!”
Festival organizers introduced a new Food Walk this year, offering $6 and $8 specials at participating businesses throughout the neighborhood.
Attendees can pick up a menu at the Information Booth to explore the selections available alongside the main event.
The Night Market also coincides with the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival, a tradition in Asia for more than 3,000 years, marking the end of the summer harvest.
Families and friends come together to share meals, light lanterns, enjoy moon cakes and appreciate the brightest full moon of the year.
The timing is meant to match the fifteenth day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar, also known as the Autumn Equinox, organizers said.
The free, all-ages event is open to the public and celebrates the vibrant culture and diversity of Seattle’s Chinatown-International District.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
