Canadian officials say these new tariffs will target about $20 billion worth of U.S. products, equal to the size of the recent U.S. levies.
Canada is reportedly ready to launch a list of retaliatory tariffs as soon as midnight Tuesday in response to the U.S. tariffs President Trump issued on Canada last month.
Tariffs as high as 50% will be applied to hundreds of U.S. products, including items like aluminum foil, cotton T-shirts and cheese.
Canadian officials say these new tariffs will target about $20 billion worth of U.S. products, equal to the size of the recent U.S. levies.
At this time, the U.S. and Canadian levies apply to a small amount of goods traded between the two countries.
But President Trump continues to warn that there will be a forceful response if the new Canadian tariffs are enforced.
Last week, U.S. Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., introduced the End Trump's Tariff Tax Act — a bill to revoke and refund President Trump's latest global and Canadian tariffs.
Murray has been outspoken about the harm Trump’s tariffs are causing in Washington — one of the most trade-dependent states in the country.
