A 65-year-old man was pulled from a submerged pickup truck early yesterday morning after the vehicle rolled backward into a lake at the Blue Heron Park boat launch.
At about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, three people were at the boat launch attempting to launch a boat when the pickup began to roll down the ramp and into the water, according to Moses Lake police.
The 65-year-old man was apparently asleep in the back seat when the truck went into the lake and did not escape on his own, police said.
A bystander nearby heard the commotion, went into the water, forced a window open, and pulled the man from the truck, getting him to shore, according to police.
The bystander began performing CPR until officers arrived and took over CPR. Medics later arrived and transported the man in critical condition, police said.
Investigators later found the pickup’s gear selector was not in park. It was not known whether it slipped out of gear or was not properly secured when the vehicle was parked.
Drug paraphernalia and packaging were found in and around the pickup, according to the notes.
The truck was impounded pending a search warrant, and the investigation was ongoing with charges possible.
