Munoz-Reyes brought the child safely onto his bus, informed authorities, and waited with the child until he was reunited with his family.

A quick-thinking Pierce Transit bus operator stepped in to help a young child found alone near a busy Parkland road Wednesday morning, according to transit officials.

Ricardo Munoz-Reyes was driving his route near Ainsworth and 104 Street South just before 11 a.m. when he saw a 4-year-old boy walking by himself wearing only a diaper.

Munoz-Reyes brought the child safely onto his bus, informed authorities, and waited with the child until he was reunited with his family.

“We want to recognize Ricardo for his swift actions. Our drivers are trained to be aware of many types of situations, and we thank him for being alert and stepping in to help this child. We consider him a hero,” said Ron Mackenzie, Transportation Assistant Manager for Pierce Transit.

Pierce Transit's service area covers 292 square miles in Pierce County, reaching about 70 percent of the county’s population.

The agency operates traditional buses, SHUTTLE paratransit, on-demand Runner, and Rideshare to connect people to work, school, appointments, and other critical destinations.
