Alex Carpenter has already helped establish professional women’s hockey in Seattle. Now the veteran forward wants to help turn the Seattle Torrent into a winner.

Carpenter, one of the Torrent’s foundational players during its inaugural season, said the support the club has received from Seattle has added to the excitement surrounding Year 2.

“We want to win for the city,” Carpenter said. “We know we are going to pack Climate Pledge.”

The 32-year-old U.S. Olympian is expected to remain a central part of Seattle’s plans after signing a three-year contract in June that runs through the 2028-29 season.

Carpenter served as an alternate captain during the Torrent’s first season and led the team with 12 goals.

Our gold medalists are home! The Seattle Torrent hosted a press conference at the Space Needle on Wednesday afternoon with gold medalists Hilary Knight, Alex Carpenter, Hannah Bilka, and Cayla Barnes of the Team USA Women's Hockey team. The Torrent GM, in-arena announcer and other special guests spoke, including Seattle soccer legend and women's sports advocate, Megan Rapinoe. We'd also like to congratulate two more Torrent players who were not at the press conference: first-time Olympian Julia Gosling, who played for Team Canada, and two-time Olympian Aneta Tejralová, who played for Team Czechia. Her 20 points in 30 games tied Julia Gosling for the team lead, while her eight assists ranked second. Carpenter also led the PWHL with 440 faceoff wins.

Carpenter’s production provided a bright spot during a difficult inaugural campaign for Seattle. The Torrent finished last in the PWHL standings with 31 points, scoring 64 goals and allowing 92.

Her experience extends well beyond Seattle.

Carpenter spent her first two PWHL seasons in New York before joining the expansion Torrent in 2025. Through three PWHL seasons, she has 31 goals and 63 points, ranking among the league’s career leaders in both categories.

Carpenter is also a three-time U.S. Olympian and won an Olympic gold medal with the United States in 2018, giving Seattle a veteran presence accustomed to playing in high-pressure situations.

For Carpenter, leadership in the Torrent’s second season starts with setting an example.

After helping introduce the franchise to Seattle, the focus shifts toward building on that foundation and rewarding a fan base that embraced the team from the beginning.
