Five people were killed Sunday night in a violent head-on collision caused by a driver who was believed to be impaired.
At 9:39 p.m., Washington State Patrol (WSP) Troopers were dispatched to eastbound Highway 2, about 11 miles north of East Wenatchee, where two cars had crashed.
WSP said a 2014 Nissan Maxima was heading westbound when it crossed into the eastbound lanes and hit a Chevrolet Sonic head-on.
The driver of the Chevrolet, a 77-year-old Omak woman, died at the scene. She was the only one inside the car.
The occupants of the Nissan -- the driver and three passengers -- were also killed.
The occupants of the Nissan were all men.
The ages of the driver and two of his passengers are not yet known. One passenger was 35, according to the WSP.
Two of the passengers in the Nissan were not wearing seatbelts.
The victims' names have not been released pending notification of next of kin.
A WSP report said drugs or alcohol are believed to have been a factor in the crash.
