A 45-year-old man was killed Monday afternoon after being struck by a train in Marysville, police said.

Marysville police responded around 4 p.m. to the area of 76th Street Northeast and State Avenue for a collision involving a pedestrian and a train.

Minutes before the collision, a caller reported people trespassing on railroad tracks in the area and said one person was behaving erratically, police said. Preliminary information indicates possible drug use may have been a contributing factor, though the circumstances remain under investigation.

The death was the fourth serious train-related incident in Marysville this month and the second to result in a death, according to police.

The incident came a day before Operation Clear Track, a nationwide rail safety initiative scheduled for Tuesday. Marysville police said officers will conduct targeted patrols at railroad crossings throughout the city, focusing on education, visibility and enforcement.

Police reminded people to stay off railroad tracks, obey crossing signals and warning devices, and never attempt to beat a train through a crossing.

Anyone experiencing a behavioral health or substance-use crisis, or concerned about someone in crisis, can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
