'Concrete Mama', a podcast produced in Washington state, gives a raw, unfiltered look at what it's like to be incarcerated.
The goal is to change perceptions about incarceration through storytelling.
ARC Seattle co-anchor Steve McCarron spoke with some of the podcast's hosts. Anthony Covert spent 16 years in incarceration before being granted clemency. He's now a college student at Whitman College. Vik Chopra, who served 5 years in incarceration, is a University of Washington graduate and Chief Creative Officer of Unincarcerated Productions. And Rachel Kjack is the CEO of Unincarcerated Productions.
The three spoke about the podcast, the themes for season 2, how incarcerated individuals are now becoming the storytellers and not just subjects of their own stories, and the feedback they received on the project.
