Each year, more than 600,000 military families move to new communities, including a number of communities in western Washington.

"Blue Star Families," which connects military families with their civilian neighbors, both people and organizations, to create strong communities, will kick off its annual "Blue Star Welcome Week" on Saturday.

It's a week designed to ensure that military families feel welcome and their communities feel inspired to support them.

ARC Seattle co-anchor Steve McCarron spoke with Meghan Barnes, Executive Director of Blue Star Families Puget Sound Chapter, and the organization's program director Natalie Wimberly about the special concert held recently at Remlinger Farms in Carnation featuring rising country music artist Antwane Tyler, why the Blue Star Welcome Week initiative is so important, and the events planned over the coming weeks.
