OXFORD, Maine (WGME) -- On Saturday, a Maine veteran celebrated like it's 1926.

It's his 100th birthday.

Donald Hancock's family held a birthday celebration for him at the Oxford Fairgrounds.

Hancock served in World War II and the Korean War. He's also received the Congressional Medal of Honor for his service, and he's the only living member from his patrol to receive it.

Hancock says it was the honor of his life.

“Senator Collins came from Washington to present it to me. So that’s kind of my special highlight of my life. You get something that had to be passed by an act of Congress. That was it," Hancock said.

Hancock was also a longtime firefighter.

The family made his celebration open to the public to make it a generational teaching moment for families across the community.
