Built in 1977, the concrete home is covered with earth, a design the listing says provides privacy, storm-resistant construction and lower energy costs.

HURON, Ohio (WKRC) - An unusual Ohio home that looks like it could have been plucked from the Shire is attracting attention online after hitting the market for $850,000.

The earth-sheltered home at 10510 Mudbrook Road in Huron has been dubbed the "Huron Hobbit House." A post featuring the property from Zillow Gone Wild has generated more than 12,000 likes and hundreds of comments.

"This Huron, OH home is known as the Huron Hobbit House (that makes sense to me) and is an earth home built of concrete and then covered with dirt on 8 acres," Zillow Gone Wild wrote.

The 2,100-square-foot ranch sits on 7.93 acres along the Huron River and includes three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

Built in 1977, the concrete home is covered with earth, a design the listing says provides privacy, storm-resistant construction and lower energy costs.

The property includes about 250 feet of Huron River frontage, giving its owner direct access for kayaking, canoeing, fishing and boating. Lake Erie and downtown Huron are also just minutes away.

The grounds include a gazebo, a separate log cabin overlooking the woods, a pole shed and a workshop. The main home features an open-concept kitchen and living area and an attached two-car garage.

The property is listed for $850,000 by Laurie Brill of Keller Williams Citywide.
