Normally, when an injury occurs, the status or severity of it is deferred to later imaging and tests. Certainly, some more specifics will come at that stage for the Seahawks with Jake Bobo.

But Mike Macdonald knew how bad it was right away.

"Our heart goes out to Jake Bobo. It seems like it's going to be a serious knee (injury. We're going to get it imaged. It looks like it's a long-term injury, so that's unfortunate," Macdonald said.

On Saturday, the team confirmed Bobo had been placed on season-ending injured reserve, and WR Julian Hicks would fill the open roster spot.

Bobo had to be carted off the field at the Seahawks' joint practice with the Tennessee Titans after landing awkwardly on a pass play.

“He’s a beast, man. He’s a great football player, great Seahawk. Hopefully we reflected that in our investment in him. We love him, we'll be there beside him as he recovers and pray for a speedy recovery. We love him,” Macdonald said.

“It hurts. He’s one of those guys that works and talks a lot of stuff, kind of like Spoon (Devon Witherspoon) in a way, offensively. He brings the juice every single day. He does his job. It sucks to lose (Jake) Bobo. I know he's going to attack it and be better whenever he comes back,” quarterback Sam Darnold said.

In the offseason, the Seahawks had to match an offer sheet from the Jacksonville Jaguars to keep Bobo in Seattle. It's a two-year deal worth $5.5 million.

Jake has been a fan favorite since his rookie season, with clutch plays including a touchdown in the NFC title game against the Rams. His value on the top special teams unit in the NFL is immense.

Indeed, this is a big loss for the Seahawks, who still do have reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Cooper Kupp and Rashid Shaheed, among several other key contributors, healthy.
