It became official on Saturday, the Seattle Seahawks signed cornerback Terrion Arnold.

Arnold, in turn, was immediately put on the Commissioner's Exempt list.

Arnold, who is facing 8 felony charges, was released by the Detroit Lions in June.

The Seahawks, by signing him, will have first rights to his contract should he be cleared in both the legal system and of course, from that exempt list.

The Seahawks General Manager, speaking with reporters after the team had to trim its roster from 90 to 53 players, says the Hawks are playing the long game with this.

“There is a ton of different factors that went into it. Obviously, the legal stuff has to take care of itself, and we totally respect that. There are tons of different buckets to this situation. Just the advocates that we had, you know. We traded for Leon Washington the first year that we were here, and he’s basically like his father. Leon (Washington) will always be a legend here, and he has a great relationship with the organization. The character just didn’t really fit with the allegations and everybody we’ve talked to. But yes, there’s a long-term play. This isn’t a, “Let’s see how quickly we can get this done.” Let’s get him in the building and see how it goes" Schneider said.

If you're unfamiliar with the exempt list, it means Arnold cannot practice or obviously play in any games for the Seahawks, but he can be at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center attending meetings and doing individual training.

So the Seahawks will wait for the legal process to play out, believe in their character evaluation, and if all goes as they hope, they could have a game-changing cornerback for the league's minimum salary.

In the meantime, cornerbacks Devon Witherspoon, Josh Jobe and Nehemiah Pritchett are locked into spots while the Hawks hope Treyvon Diggs agrees to join their practice squad.
