They say first impressions are everything.
To that point, just minutes after being selected by the world champion Seahawks in the 2nd round of the 2026 NFL Draft, Bud Clark made his first impression.
“Honestly, first my heart dropped to my butt. I felt like it was a dream come true. A dream come to reality: Bud said when the Seahawks drafted him.
Now that training camp is a week in, he's a little more acclimated.
But still just as excited to be a Seahawk.
“It felt amazing. It was moving fast, and I felt like I was moving fast with it. I adapted to it pretty well," Clark said of getting first-team reps at practice.
Clark is a student of the game and on that draft night call referenced his respect and love for the Legion of Boom days, especially Richard Sherman and Kam Chancellor.
So how fitting it was that Sherman showed up to Seahawks practice and spent time with Clark.
“He was real about everything I asked. I was on (the) mic and everything like that, but I feel like we talked outside of that. He ended up giving me his number and different things like that. We got to chat, and I loved it," Clark said of his time with the Seahawks legend.
Clark is a ballhawk; he's perfect for this Mike Macdonald defense.
Arguably the biggest loss of the departing free agents this offseason was safety Coby Bryant. While it'll take a little time to get to Coby's year four level, Clark is already proving himself capable of filling that spot well.
“It’s been different. I played down a little bit, but in the ‘dime’ spot I’ve always played to the strong (side). Being in the ‘dime’ has been good. I’m learning more, expanding my knowledge, and it’s helping me," Clark said, but added that it hasn't been a difficult transition to the pros because he played a similar defense in college.
And there's a great culture with the Seahawks.
He calls Julian Love "The President" and raves about the atmosphere. Indeed, it's a culture that's set a talented player like Clark for early success, and for a defense that loves to utilize as many weapons as possible, it's a great situation for the Seahawks defense to be in.
Clark agrees.
"It’s a great brotherhood, but when it’s time to work, we have this thing called ‘Loose and focused.’ We’re very loose and focused. When it’s time to focus, we’re focused, but when it’s time to have fun, we have fun," he said.
