A South Carolina woman who owns a home near where law enforcement discovered two people dead was charged with two counts of homicide by child abuse, according to court records.
The scene on the 3200 block of Pinewood Drive in Ladson, where authorities are investigating a crime. Sept. 29, 2026. (WCIV/Cameron Limes)Law enforcement took 31-year-old Justine Marie May into custody on Tuesday, and she waived her bond appearance.
An initial court appearance is currently scheduled for November 20. She will remain in custody until that date.
Charleston County law enforcement was first called to the scene for a welfare check on Tuesday around 1:15 p.m. Deputies found two people dead.
Law enforcement then went door-to-door asking neighbors what they had seen or heard throughout the day. Shannon Green, who lives in the area, said the neighborhood is generally pretty quiet.
"We really haven't seen much of anything," she said. "I learned about the incident when I was scrolling social media earlier. I looked out the back window and saw a bunch of blue lights."
The Charleston County Coroner's Office hasn't released the names and ages of the individuals found dead.
A mug shot for May wasn't immediately made available.
The charge of homicide by child abuse carries a 20-year-to-life sentence if found guilty.
