Secretary of War Pete Hegseth worked out alongside 600 troops Wednesday for a morning physical training session at the Pentagon ahead of his State of the Force address.
The Department of War's response account shared video of the workout on X. During his speech to troops, Hegseth emphasized discipline, high standards and empowering junior military leaders.
He pointed to what he called the “War Department Golden Rule,” first introduced during last year’s address at Quantico.
“Do unto your formation that which you would have done unto your son or daughter’s formation,” Hegseth said. “Meaning no games, no gimmicks, no low standards, no excuses.”
He said leaders should consider how they would want a military formation led if their own child were serving in it.
“If your kid was in that formation, how would you lead that formation?” Hegseth said. “How would you maintain discipline? How would you maintain standards?”
Hegseth is expected to speak to junior officers and enlisted leaders at Quantico on Wednesday afternoon in what the Department of War is calling a "historic" address.
