During a bond hearing, a judge's order said testimony indicated that an autopsy found the child suffered from malnutrition and dehydration.

A mother in Alabama is facing murder charges after investigators determined her 12-year-old disabled daughter died from "extreme" physical and medical neglect.

Leslie Denise Wilson, 35, is accused of subjecting her daughter with cerebral palsy to neglect between May 1 and June 17, 2026, according to records obtained by WBMA. Investigators allege it caused serious injuries and ultimately led to her death.

During a bond hearing, a judge's order said testimony indicated that an autopsy found the child suffered from malnutrition and dehydration.

Due to the child's age and death, the Gadsden Police Department's Juvenile Unit and the Alabama Department of Human Resources began an investigation, according to People.

A criminal complaint obtained by the outlet alleges Wilson “did torture, willfully mistreat, cruelly beat or otherwise willfully mistreat her daughter."

An Aniha's Law hearing was also held, which allows a judge to deny bail to suspects charged with certain violent crimes, including murder.

Gadsden Police Department’s Major Crimes Division Det. Alec Burgess said at the hearing he found the child with marks on her body and live maggots inside her diaper, WDBJ7 reported.

Burgess added the girl only weighed 32 pounds and depended on a feeding tube, alleging Wilson told her younger siblings to take care of the girl, despite having little food in the home.

The judge ordered Wilson held without bond. Her case is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 28.
