A 6-year-old girl was killed in a leopard attack outside her family’s farm home in Gujarat’s Junagadh district. CCTV reportedly captured the incident as officials set eight traps and increased patrols to find the animal.

A 6-year-old girl was killed after a leopard attacked her outside her family’s home in western India, prompting wildlife officials to set traps and intensify their search for the animal.

Prisha Solanki was playing in the courtyard of her family’s farm home in Dedkiyal village in Gujarat’s Junagadh district on the night of Sept. 23 when a leopard emerged from nearby grass, attacked her and dragged her away, according to a report from The Times of India.

Her family and other residents searched for her, and her body was found about an hour later near the farm, her uncle told the news outlet.

Authorities with the Gujarat Forest Department placed eight cages around the area and began intensive patrols and tracking operations to capture the leopard, according to reports citing the agency.

Surveillance video reportedly captured the attack, which has heightened concern among residents of the rural community.
