A 72-year-old Florida man was left clinging to a pipe to keep his head above water after falling from his wheelchair into a marina.
According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, on Sunday deputies responded at about 8:55 p.m. to reports of a possible drowning near 2700 N. Peninsula Ave. The caller reported hearing a splash and a man yelling for help but said the area was behind a locked gate.
A Volusia County sheriff's sergeant responded and found the man had fallen from his wheelchair and was clinging to a pipe to stay afloat.
The sergeant immediately jumped into the marina and helped bring the man to safety.
Body camera video shows the sergeant arriving at the scene and jumping into the water to rescue the man. The video later shows additional law enforcement officers arriving as the sergeant helps the man stay afloat and get to safety.
The man was evaluated by New Smyrna Beach firefighters and declined further medical treatment.
