A 77-year-old Florida man convicted of killing a woman with a hammer was executed Tuesday evening after spending the last 28 years on death row.
Curtis Wilkie Beasley became the 7th prisoner over the age of 70, and the 16th prisoner overall to be executed by the state of Florida in 2026. He received a three-drug lethal injection at the state prison at 6 p.m.
Beasley was convicted on charges of first-degree murder, robbery and grand theft in connection to the 1995 killing of Carolyn Monfort.
In August of 1995, Monfort’s body was found in her Orlando home by her daughter. She had suffered multiple blunt-force trauma injuries to the head, and a bloody hammer was also found on the scene.
After the murder, Beasley had traveled to Miami in Monfort’s vehicle and relocated to Alabama under a fake name before being arrested. He was sentenced to death in 1998.
