Flynn, 40, is accused of shooting and killing his wife, Ashley. She was found dead in their Tipp City home in February.
On Monday, prosecutors and defense teams wrapped up their case in the Caleb Flynn murder trial. Closing arguments will be heard on Tuesday, but Monday jurors heard more testimony from investigators.
Flynn, 40, is accused of shooting and killing his wife, Ashley. She was found dead in their Tipp City home in February.
Jurors watched more of Flynn’s interview with police, in which he told detectives he was asleep in another room when gunshots woke him. He said he found Ashley shot in their bedroom, then called 911 within minutes.
"While tucking them in, he ended up laying down, falling asleep for an unknown period of time. Then, at that point, he heard gunshots, which then woke him up. He said he froze for four to six seconds," said Tipp City Police Detective Sgt. Mike Morgan.
During cross-examination, investigators agreed no gunshot residue testing was performed on Flynn or in the house. Testing also didn't reveal that Ashley's blood was found on Flynn or his clothing. The defense highlighted that testing did not connect Flynn to the shooting.
"The bottom line is there were no answers for the subsequent tests that actually identified anyone as the person who shot the gun, correct?" said Flynn's Defense Attorney, Patrick Mulligan.
"There was no more evidence on who shot the gun," Morgan said.
The state's next witness was a criminal intelligence analyst.
The court heard testimony from the analyst that there were hundreds of messages referencing Flynn wanting to kill or get rid of Ashley.
After returning from an afternoon recess, both sides rested their case.
Prosecutors called numerous witnesses. Jurors heard from Flynn's former mistress, Alleigha Botner, and Ashley's family.
The defense didn't call any witnesses.
Flynn's two daughters, who were expected to testify, were not called to the stand.
Closing arguments will begin Tuesday at 8:15 a.m.
