Florida woman arrested after deputies say a prison contraband drop included meth and 37 phones.

A Florida woman may be trading freedom for a jail cell after deputies say she tried to make what they called a “bountiful” contraband drop at Martin Correctional Institution.

According to the Martin County Sheriff's Office, Makia Lashay Rivers was arrested outside Martin Correctional Institution on Wednesday night after she was reported as a suspicious person on the property.

Deputies responded and detained Rivers, who was allegedly found with a large amount of contraband, including:

  • 464 grams of methamphetamine
  • K2/THC
  • 37 cellphones
  • Several bottles of alcohol
  • Cigarettes
  • Cellphone chargers
  • Shoes and other contraband and paraphernalia

Rivers told investigators that two men from Broward County convinced her to travel to Martin County and help make the drop, according to the sheriff's office. MCSO said Rivers became scared at some point and ran.

The sheriff's office said the two men eventually left the area, leaving Rivers behind with the bags of contraband.

Rivers now faces charges of trafficking methamphetamine, burglary of an unoccupied structure, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and introduction of contraband into a state correctional facility.

She is being held in the Martin County Jail without bond.
