The two young men who lost their lives in a targeted shooting near the Interstate 5 overpass on South 272 Street Monday morning were identified by the King County Medical Examiner Wednesday.
Ali Abdi Dahir, 20, and Abdiqadir Abdiqadir, 20, were identified as the two men, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Officials said the manner of death for both was homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds.
Kent and Des Moines police responded to the area just after 10:43 a.m. Monday to multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired near the overpass.
Callers told 9-1-1 dispatchers that two people had been shot and described the suspect vehicle as fleeing the scene.
When officers arrived, they found the two victims inside a vehicle and began providing medical aid.
Crews from Puget Sound Fire and King County Medic One also responded and administered emergency care, but both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to witnesses who were stopped in traffic, they heard several gunshots and saw a dark-colored sedan pull up next to the victims' vehicle.
The location near a busy light rail station and a Kent elementary school left many in shock.
Witnesses told police someone in the sedan fired several rounds before driving away southbound on I-5.
Investigators said the shooting appears to be targeted rather than a random act.
Kent police detectives took over the investigation and are working to confirm the suspect or suspects and the vehicle involved. Detectives are reviewing video evidence from the area, police said.
Authorities asked anyone with information to contact the Kent Police Tip Line at 253-856-5808 or email KPDTipLine@kentwa.gov. For urgent tips, people should call 911.
