More than a month after the Chelan Hills Fire ignited on July 4, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested an 18-year-old Kent man they say is the primary suspect responsible for starting the blaze.
On Wednesday, detectives developed probable cause to arrest the suspect and traveled to Kent, Washington, where they located and arrested Michael Yakimov, an 18-year-old Kent resident.
Detectives arrested him without incident, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
The arrest comes days after a victim who was found dead during the Chelan Hills Fire was identified. Fire officials said that on July 5, the victim's remains were found inside a vehicle that had gone off the road and was consumed by fire.
Yakimov was transported back to Douglas County and booked into the Chelan County Regional Justice Center on the following charges: first-degree manslaughter, first-degree arson, first-degree malicious mischief, and six counts of third-degree assault.
