A man from Washington was sentenced to 25 years in prison for sexually abusing a 3-year-old girl he was babysitting at a Molalla home back in 2023.
A Clackamas County jury found Thomas Irvin Kelly, 40, of Olympia guilty of first-degree unlawful sexual penetration and unlawful first-degree sexual abuse.
The Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office said the charges stem from an incident in July of 2023 when he abused a 3-year-old he was babysitting at a home in Molalla. The child reported the abuse to her daycare provider the following day.
“The conviction for Unlawful Sexual Penetration in the First Degree is subject to Jessica’s Law, an Oregon law that requires a 25-year mandatory minimum sentence for adults who are convicted of raping, sodomizing or sexually penetrating a child under the age of 12 years old,” the District Attorney’s Office said.
Kelly had no prior criminal history, officials said.
