A Port Orchard homeowner escaped injury after investigators say a man riding a golf cart used a torch to set the home’s garage on fire Tuesday in Kitsap County, causing an estimated $175,000 in damage.

A 47-year-old Port Orchard man is accused of setting fire to a home’s garage while driving a golf cart, according to the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office.

Video captured the suspected arsonist driving up in a golf cart, along with a dog in the passenger seat, and setting the garage on fire with a torch.

Within minutes, the garage was fully involved while a resident was inside the home and unaware of what was happening, according to the information provided.

The homeowner was not hurt and told investigators he did not know who the suspect was or why the home was targeted.

A neighbor who witnessed the fire flagged down a Washington State Patrol trooper, who then located the suspect.

The neighbor reported that the man claimed he was with the fire department, then waved a lit torch at the neighbor and tried to run him over with the golf cart when confronted.

A 47-year-old man was taken into custody by Washington State Patrol. No additional details about potential charges were provided.

The fire also destroyed a car valued at $25,000, according to the notes.
