Two young men are dead after Olympia police say they met up in a west Olympia parking lot late Friday night and ended up shooting each other.
Right before midnight on Friday, officers were called to a large parking lot in the 2200 block of Harrison Avenue Northwest, near several businesses including a bowling alley and Grocery Outlet.
When officers arrived, they found a 20-year-old man dead at the scene with a gunshot wound.
A short time later, police said a 17-year-old boy arrived at Capitol Medical Center with a gunshot wound. He later died at the hospital.
Olympia police said their preliminary investigation indicates the 17-year-old and 20-year-old had made plans to meet in the parking lot to “take care of some previous issues they had with each other.”
A small group met in the parking lot for the two to “hash it out,” but the two got into an argument “about a previous argument,” and both pulled out guns and allegedly shot each other, police said.
A witness took the 17-year-old to the hospital, police said.
Olympia police said they do not believe there is any danger to the public and there are no outstanding suspects.
Investigators have seized two vehicles and one gun, and police said they are seeking a warrant for one of the vehicles where they believe a second gun is located.
Police processed the scene overnight and left around 6:30 a.m., sending investigators home to rest.
Olympia police said there is currently no active scene and businesses in the area are open.
