Officers found an adult woman, and Tacoma Fire Department personnel at the scene confirmed she was dead.

Tacoma police arrested a 59-year-old man Thursday in connection with the 2021 homicide of a woman who was found dead along a roadway.

Tacoma police said officers responded to the 3100 block of East M Street at about 7:33 a.m. on Oct. 12, 2021, after a deceased person was discovered along the side of the road.

Officers found an adult woman, and Tacoma Fire Department personnel at the scene confirmed she was dead, according to police.

Police said the circumstances surrounding the woman's death were unknown at the time.

Detectives and forensic services personnel responded to investigate. The Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office also responded and later determined the woman's death was a homicide.

Nearly five years later, on Sept. 3, Tacoma police detectives arrested the man in connection with the case.

Police said the man was booked into the Pierce County Jail for investigation of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree rape.

Police did not provide additional information about what led detectives to the suspect or his alleged connection to the woman.
