Central Pierce Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched just before 3 p.m. to a reported structure fire in the 1700 block of 168th Street East.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a house fire broke out Tuesday afternoon at the scene of an ongoing homicide investigation in Spanaway, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Office.

The man, who was one of two people living in the home, was arrested around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on an arson charge. He is expected to appear in court Wednesday.

Central Pierce Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched just before 3 p.m. to a reported structure fire in the 1700 block of 168th Street East.

When firefighters arrived, they found an active fire at the home and began suppression efforts. The fire has since been extinguished.

Two people were displaced, and no injuries were reported, according to Central Pierce Fire & Rescue.

Pierce County Sheriff's Detective Joshua Mills confirmed the fire occurred at the same property where investigators are conducting a homicide investigation. The fire was reported at 2:54 p.m. and involved the main house on the property, Mills said.

The homicide investigation began after a body was found Monday in a shed on the property.

Mills said it was not immediately clear whether the shed where the body was found was damaged in Tuesday's fire.

Authorities have not said what caused the fire. Before the arrest, Mills said investigators considered the fire suspicious because it broke out at the scene of an active homicide investigation.

The Pierce County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
