Detectives are trying to determine what led to a deadly shooting that left two people dead in the Rainier Valley neighborhood of South Seattle, according to Seattle police (SPD).

Shortly after 2:42 a.m., dispatchers received calls about a crash at Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and South Graham Street.

Seattle Fire Department crews arrived at the scene first and called for officers.

Officers arrived and found a crashed vehicle over the curb with a man and woman inside.

Both had gunshot wounds. Seattle Fire Department medics treated both victims, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. He later died from his injuries, SPD said.

Homicide Unit detectives responded. Investigators are working to learn what led up to the shooting, but no suspect is in custody, and detectives are not looking for any outstanding suspects at this time.

The 1 Line service is suspended between Columbia City and Othello stations during the investigation from 4 a.m. to nearly 5 a.m. and has since resumed regular service.

Anyone who has information is asked to call the SPD Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000.
