Seattle organizers are calling on residents to pitch in later this month as the city prepares for its annual Show Up, Seattle Day of Service.

The volunteer event is set for Saturday, Sept. 26. Organizers say it will include projects across Seattle, from picking up litter to restoring parks and cleaning up streets.

“There are going to be incredible opportunities throughout our city to engage in service whether that be picking up litter, restoring a park or cleaning up a street,” said Andrew Lee, general manager and CEO of Seattle Public Utilities.

A sign-up portal is now open, including a map showing where volunteers are needed for various projects. Organizers say volunteers will work alongside staff from several City of Seattle departments.

“Our parks department, our division is hosting approximately 70 volunteer events and we would like you all to come out and give us a helping hand in keeping these parks clean safe and welcoming for our community members,” said Markeith Blackshire of Seattle Parks & Recreation.

This year marks the fifth Show Up, Seattle Day of Service. Organizers say they hope thousands of neighbors will again team up across the city.

“This is a great opportunity not just to provide some type of service to a neighbor or project or organization. It’s really just about belonging and connection. I think we could definitely use more of that in Seattle,” said Quynh Pham, director of the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods.
