A new community basketball court opened in Southeast Seattle Tuesday.
A new community basketball court opened in South Seattle Tuesday.
The Seattle Storm worked with Seattle Parks and Recreation to host a ribbon-cutting at Benefit Park, marking the debut of a basketball court refreshed through the Eye of the Storm initiative.
The court will feature a mural curated by artist Nikita Ares and an official WNBA three-point line, organizers said.
The Eye of the Storm initiative aims to turn neighborhood basketball courts into places for connection, wellness, creativity, and belonging.
Just in September, they unveiled two transformed courts, one at Victory Heights Playground Park in Northeast Seattle and this one at Benefit Playground.
One court features a full artist activation and mural experience showcasing the unique character of its neighborhood, while the other will receive a Storm-branded court refresh.
Each newly transformed court debuted with a community celebration hosted by the Storm.
But the team isn't done yet. Through 2030, the Storm plans to transform two community courts each year.
