Drivers in Seattle are paying more at the pump this week, with average gas prices climbing sharply over the past seven days.
Average gasoline prices in Seattle have risen 11.0 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $5.62 per gallon today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 775 stations in Seattle.
Prices in Seattle are 28.5 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 98.5 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.
Price reports showed the cheapest station in Seattle was priced at $4.99 per gallon yesterday, while the most expensive was $6.69 per gallon, a difference of $1.70 per gallon.
The lowest price in Washington yesterday was $4.69 per gallon while the highest was the aforementioned $6.69 per gallon, a difference of $2.00 per gallon.
Nationally, the average price of gasoline has risen 2.2 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.09 per gallon today, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
The national average is up 10.6 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 90.8 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.
Diesel prices also increased nationwide. The national average price of diesel has increased 29.7 cents compared to a week ago and stands at $5.867 per gallon.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said, “Average gasoline prices rose in nearly three out of five states over the last week, while diesel surged in every state — with some climbing nearly 50 cents per gallon in just seven days.” De Haan added, “The milestone many hoped to avoid has arrived: the national average price of gasoline on Labor Day set a new all-time record for the holiday, eclipsing the previous mark of $3.83 per gallon set in 2012.” He also said, “Diesel's record fell as well, with the national average reaching $5.87 per gallon on September 3, surpassing the prior all-time high of $5.82 per gallon set in 2022 — and with $6 per gallon now a realistic possibility in the weeks ahead."
In neighboring areas, GasBuddy reported Tacoma at $5.42 per gallon, up 12.1 cents per gallon from last week’s $5.30 per gallon. The statewide average in Washington was $5.45 per gallon, up 11.4 cents per gallon from last week’s $5.33 per gallon. Yakima averaged $5.33 per gallon, up 20.8 cents per gallon from last week’s $5.12 per gallon.
GasBuddy’s historical data shows Seattle’s average price on Sept. 8, 2025, was $4.63 per gallon, compared with a U.S. average of $3.18 per gallon. On Sept. 8, 2024, Seattle averaged $4.31 per gallon (U.S. average $3.22); Sept. 8, 2023, $5.24 per gallon (U.S. average $3.80); Sept. 8, 2022, $4.85 per gallon (U.S. average $3.72); and Sept. 8, 2021, $4.02 per gallon (U.S. average $3.17).
