A 28-year-old man was arrested in Seattle after he allegedly escaped from an ambulance, stole a woman’s car and then ran from officers before being caught, according to Seattle police (SPD).
The incident unfolded Tuesday, around 7:16 a.m., when officers found a shirtless man running through heavy traffic near Fourth Avenue South and South Holgate Street.
The man appeared to be in some kind of crisis, and officers sent him to the hospital due to safety concerns, police said.
While heading to the hospital, police said the man escaped from the ambulance near Fourth Avenue South and South Jackson Street. Soon after, police said he stole a woman’s car as she was parking it.
Officers used the vehicle’s tracking system to locate it near South Grand Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way South after it hit a parked vehicle.
The suspect ran from the vehicle, leading officers on a chase until he was caught and arrested, police said.
The Real Time Crime Center analysts notified officers that the suspect had been driving the stolen car into oncoming traffic at a high rate of speed and hanging out of the vehicle, according to police.
The man was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of stealing the car, driving recklessly, and hit-and-run, police said.
