Puyallup School District teachers will return to work tomorrow without a newly negotiated contract as bargaining continues between the district and its teachers
Puyallup School District teachers will return to work tomorrow without a newly negotiated contract as bargaining continues between the district and its teachers’ union.
Teachers agreed to continue working at least through Sept. 13, according to the union.
The decision allows the school year to begin as scheduled. The Puyallup school district has just over 23,000 students.
The first day of school for Puyallup students in grades 1 through 12 is Wednesday.
Contract negotiations remain ongoing, with the union hoping a tentative agreement can be reached before its next general membership meeting on Sept. 13.
At that meeting, teachers are expected to either vote on a tentative agreement, if one has been reached, or take a vote on a potential work stoppage, according to union representatives.
