People and pets are being told to stay out of the water at Juanita Beach Park after testing found elevated bacteria levels.
Public Health – Seattle & King County recommended Tuesday afternoon that people and pets avoid the swimming areas at Juanita Beach for at least one week. Signs will be posted indicating the swimming area is closed, but the rest of the park remains open.
Meanwhile, Houghton Beach has reopened for swimming, wading, and other water activities after being closed since Sept. 9 because of elevated bacteria levels.
King County water quality staff recently tested both beaches. Swim beaches across the county are tested weekly, and swimming areas are closed when bacteria levels exceed safe thresholds.
Crews are expected to return to the beaches next week to collect additional samples.
The city said updates on Juanita Beach Park will be posted on its website.
King County also maintains online information showing water quality testing results and which swimming beaches are open or closed.
